About

Meet Green Hummingbird, your family retreat in northern Columbus. Five bedrooms and nine beds down one hallway, an expansive living room, and a game room out back that stays busy until somebody finally calls it. Built for a Ft. Benning graduation, a reunion, or a relocation stretch that needs a house instead of a hotel. The kids get a fenced yard to run in; the adults get the water after dark. The base is 15 mins out, groceries walkable, pets welcome. Tap the ❤️ up top to save us for your dates.

Good to know

This one absorbs one. Five bedrooms and nine beds spread down a single hallway, living room & Sun room mean the movie crowd and the talkers don't have to negotiate, and the sunroom out back stays lit and loud long after the kids go down. It was built for the trips people take to Columbus for real reasons - a graduation at Fort Benning, a reunion that finally happened, a relocation stretch where a hotel would break you. THE LAYOUT Everything is on one level, with just a step or two at the front door. The entry opens into the main living room; from there the kitchen, dining table, and second living area run together in one open stretch, so someone can be cooking while someone else is losing at Chinese checkers eight feet away. The five bedrooms sit off the hall, and the sunroom game room hangs off the back of the house with windows on three sides looking straight into the yard. LIVING ROOMS The living room is anchored by a deep green corduroy sectional and a wall-mounted TV, with Clue, Codenames, and Scrabble live on the shelf running along the wall and a ceiling fan overhead. This living room does the same job in a different key - its own sectional, an orange accent chair, a TV and a sliding door out to the back. Two rooms, two things happening, nobody compromising. KITCHEN Sage cabinets, granite counters, stainless fridge and dishwasher. The counter is set up for people who actually cook: electric kettle, toaster, blender, griddle, knife block, cutting boards. Open the uppers and there are wine glasses on one side and green stoneware on the other - enough plates and bowls for a full house, not a starter set. Coffee and tea are stocked. A high chair and children's dinnerware are here if the group includes someone very short. DINING AREA A long light-wood table seats eight, with the game shelf right behind it and the living room on the other side. It's the table where the meal ends and the board game starts without anyone getting up. BEDROOMS Bedroom 1 - the king suite. A black canopy frame against a deep green wall, matching lamps, a boucle chair in the corner by the window, mirrored closet doors, and a private en-suite bathroom. It has its own TV, which matters more than people admit. Bedroom 2 - a queen bed with a black upholstered headboard against a warm terracotta wall, rattan nightstands and a lamp on each side. Bedroom 3 - a queen bed with a cane-and-gold headboard set between two windows, sage nightstands, soft light most of the day. Bedroom 4 - the room that makes sixteen work. Two beds under hummingbird prints, each with a trundle that rolls out in seconds, so it sleeps up to six without a single air mattress. Floating nightstands, lamps on both sides, spare pillows and blankets stacked and ready. Bedroom 5 - off the kitchen, two queen beds under woven wall hangings, mustard pillows, and orange curtains that make the morning look better than it is. It sits right off the kitchen, which makes it the easy room for whoever lands at midnight. BATHROOMS Two full bathrooms, both with tub-showers. The first serves the main hall - vanity, mirror, fresh towels for every guest, and shampoo, conditioner, and body wash stocked. The second is the en-suite off Bedroom 1, tiled and quieter, with a hair dryer and a deep tub for the end of a travel day. BACKYARD Fully fenced on all sides, which means the gate is the only thing you have to watch. The hot tub sits on the grass a few steps from the sunroom door with its own step-up. There's a gas grill on the patio - guests mention it by name in reviews - and a full playset with swings, climbing rings, and a saucer swing at the far end. There's grass left over after all of it. FRONT YARD & PORCH Brick ranch, mature lawn, covered front porch with columns and a brick floor. The carport and driveway hold the cars, with free street parking as backup. LAUNDRY Full-size washer and dryer in their own room, plus an iron. Wash mid-stay and go home with clean clothes — the reason long stays work here. SUNROOM - GAME ROOM The best room in the house, and the reason people rebook. A regulation pool table under a wall of windows, an arcade cabinet mounted against exposed brick, and a wicker sectional two steps away for whoever's waiting on the next rack. It's bright enough at 10am for coffee and loud enough at 10pm for a tournament, and you can watch the kids on the playset the whole time. NEIGHBORHOOD Quiet residential streets in northern Columbus, the kind where the loudest thing at night is the AC cycling. A grocery store is within walking distance for the milk you forgot. Fort Benning is roughly a fifteen-minute drive, which is why so many of our guests are here for a graduation, a family visit, a PCS move, or a relocation stretch that needs a real house instead of a room. The Chattahoochee RiverWalk, Uptown Columbus, and the whitewater course on the river are all a short drive from the door, and the airport is close enough that early flights aren't a crisis. AND THEN Here's how the stay usually goes. Everybody arrives at different hours, and it doesn't matter, because there are five bedrooms and nobody has to wait up. Somebody cooks. Somebody else discovers the arcade cabinet. The kids find the swings before they find their suitcases. And at some point after dark, when the house has finally gone quiet, two or three of you end up in the hot tub with the yard light on, saying the thing you actually came here to say.
